Pramila Chaturvedi taught me all I know about Indian cookery. Between 1996 and 2001, I was most fortunate in being able to take seven of Pramila’s cookery courses run under the auspices of the Wollongong WEA School of Culinary Arts, and subsequently I was able to supplement these courses with some lessons given privately in her home. An outstanding feature of Pramila’s teaching was the way in which all the basic techniques, and all the minute technical details of how and when to incorporate spices to best effect, were systematically and thoroughly explained to the beginner student. Pramila’s original recipes, provided to her students (all of which I still have carefully filed away for continual use), were likewise very clearly set out and explained. Pramila’s Indian cookbook, the result of her many years of teaching, is thus very much out of the ordinary and I am glad that her recipes, and explanations thereof, are being made available more widely.

I have had such positive feedback on the Well-being Expo held here at the University of Wollongong. Stall holders and students commented on your wonderful and informative cooking demonstrations. Not only were the dishes you cooked delicious the warm and generous personality also contributed to the students participating in the demonstrations and tastings. I look forward to catching up with you in the near future, learning how to make these scrumptious dishes myself and spending more time with such a beautiful person and come shopping for some lovely Indian clothes and accessories.

Pramila’s home cooking class was a wonderful chance to gather friends who share a love of exquisite food and a desire to learn how to make it themselves. Pramila teaches with passion and patience and the whole experience was one anyone would want to enjoy again and again. Good luck with everything.

Thank you so much for making your cooking class such a fun, enjoyable and tasty experience. I loved your fresh ingredients and spices and your techniques and recipes are easy to follow so I will be able to recreate these dishes at home. I love that you cook with such passion and a great sense of humour and you seem to really enjoy teaching us. I have recommended your class to other friends and family and can’t wait to organise another fantastic fun filled feat for a taste of India.

I first met Pramila about 18 years ago when she taught me Indian cooking and healthy eating. From the first class I found an excellent teacher who became a good friend. She has been an inspiration to my cooking style that many of her teachings and ingredients find their way into most of the meals I prepare. Pramila’s teaching style put all my doubts of trying something new out of my head forever. The biggest bonus was the understanding that healthy cooking and eating does not mean boring or plain, it is the complete opposite. Pramila has opened my mind to healthy cooking and healthy living.

‘Pramila’s depth of knowledge and passion for her subject is infectious! Having travelled in India, I already loved the food and culture, but after Pramila’s cooking class I’m inspired to experiment and find out more about this delicious and very healthy cuisine. She is generous with tips and techniques and a natural performer which makes her classes very worthwhile and fun!’
